Armin to Get You Hammered: Bungalow 8 Doorman Is Opening His Own Joint

Armin to Get You Hammered: Bungalow 8 Doorman Is Opening His Own Joint : From the New York Observer

Those who have been waking up and night-shivering and sweating, possessed of one thought: Where in the world is irrepressible Bungalow 8 doorman Armin Amiri?—can rest easy.

“I’m shooting a movie with the Weinstein brothers called Crossing Over,” said Mr. Amiri, reached by phone on April 10. Oh, but there’s more: “I’m opening my own place on Jane Street and the West Side Highway. It’s a Cuban lounge in the style of 1940’s speakeasy.” The ground floor, he said, will be a “1930’s-style peasant café,” for all those million-dollar peasants that now populate the meatpacking district.

“It’s called Socialista!” said Mr. Amiri with gusto, adding soberly: “I believe in a healthy balance of capitalism and a socialism.”

Mr. Amiri is not aiming to recreate the exclusivity of Amy Sacco’s Bungalow 8, where he worked the door for five years. “I just want it to be really, really down low and quiet,” he said of the new place.

But the doors of Socialista, which is scheduled to open mid-May, will definitely be shut to one person: onetime “It” boy Fabian Basabe, currently suing Mr. Amiri after the doorman allegedly slapped him on June last year.

“Fabian is absolutely not allowed,” Mr. Amiri said.

The Hit Factory being turned into condos..

I was walking by the Hit Factory yesterday and voila .. you can now live where legends were made.

http://www.thehitfactorycondo.com/

:Info:
For $1 million to $4 million, you can now own a slice of the studio where Stevie Wonder, John Lennon and Billy Joel recorded their songs. The Hit Factory, a legendary recording studio, is living on as a luxury condominium after shutting its doors in 2005. The building will include 27 loft-style residences including six penthouses. You don't find condos cooler than these. "The area (Hell's Kitchen) has lots of hip restaurants and it's growing increasingly upscale," said Michael Stribling, executive vice president of Stribling Marketing Associates. "People want to be there now."

The Hit Factory will offer an expansive 2,000-square-foot roof deck, keyed-entry elevators and a fully equipped fitness center. Stribling says there's already strong interest in the project. Where else could you find a condo where the Rolling Stones, U2 and Mariah Carey once walked the halls?

Further south, in posh Chelsea, lies a new complex called The Caledonia that's drawing younger buyers (mostly 28 to 45 years old). With a pet spa, an Equinox Fitness Club and natural stone and wood elements selected by the Irish designer Clodagh, it's not hard to see why it would attract the younger set. One intriguing feature in the graceful building is a lounge with hand-selected volumes of art, style, fashion and design books from the Assouline Archive.

Location is another part of the appeal. "The location is near the Meatpacking District, with its upcoming boutiques and restaurants," said Susan de Frana, president of Related Residential Sales. "We're at the nexus where things are happening."

Ankle Update

The cast is off and I am now walking with a gangster lean and have aquired a gangster cane. Bow down and kiss the cane. I will be studying and taking after my fellow pimps, Snoop Dogg and Don the Magic Juan (if Uncle Luke carried a cane I would have added him to the list).

Ethanol Gas

It truly only takes one person to open your eyes to something you knew little about. Hopefully while people put me on I can put you on. I truly did not know that Brazil does not rely on imports of oil for gas. Here is some background and information on Ethanol/Alcohol. Something we should push for in our country. We needn't be dependent on foreign oil to sustain ourselves. Keep in mind too that Brazil produces ethanol from sugarcane which is relativly easy to do, while in the US they are pushihng to produce ethanol from corn which is more costly and difficult. While on the topic of oil dependancy may I mention that if hemp also makes a viable energy sourse and has a production rate of up to 10 tons per acre, every four months. ( http://www.thehia.org/hempfacts.htm )

The U.S. imports 60% of its oil and barley produces 10%. While Brazil's efforts are being closely followed by countries with big fuel bills. India and China have sent a parade of top officials to see Brazil's program.

Brazil's National Program for Alcohol: a few facts

With the 1973 oil crisis the Brazilian government, then run by the general Emílio Garrastazu Médici, initiated in 1975 the Pró-Álcool program.

The Pró-Álcool or Programa Nacional do Álcool (National Alcohol Program) was a nation-wide program financed by the government to phase out all automobile fuels derived from fossil fuels (such as gasoline) in favour of ethanol. It began with the anhydrous alcohol to blend with the gasoline. This mixture has been used since then and is now done with 24% of alcohol and 76% gasoline. The program successfully reduced by 10 million the number of cars running on gasoline in Brazil, thereby reducing the country's dependence on oil imports.

The decision to produce ethanol from fermented sugarcane was based on the low cost of sugar at the time. Other sources of fermentable carbohydrates were tested such as the manioc.

FedEx Commercials

Ha.. I’m sitting here watching the Eagles smack the Giants, which is cool, cause I like the Eagles. Plus I have a nice bet going with someone so win or lose I’m in good standing. Back to my point, This FedEx commercial just came on and provoked me to bust out laughing. It was one of those uncontrollable laughs like when someone IM’s you at work and next thing you know your laughing uncontrollably all alone at your desk looking like a total clown (don’t act like this hasn’t happened to you). Well I’m about to do that to you, hopefully you’re at work. Check out these commercials, http://fedex.com/us/about/unitedstates/advertising/tvads/player1.html?link=4 the one that made me bust out laughing was called “Overwhelmed”. Enjoy!

ACCUPUNCTURE: Dr. Yuen

ACCUPUNCTURE: Dr. Yuen
Chinatown NYC (I'll give you his information if you are interested)

After hearing my sister in law Jessie rave about her experience with acupuncture I decided to give it a try. With the start of a new year and a new lease on life I booked an appointment for January 3rd. My ultimate goal is to help alleviate problems related to food allergies I have and to assist me in quitting smoking. I figure a 3,000-year-old ancient Chinese practice couldn't be all-wrong. Always the skeptic New Yorker I was somewhat optimistic about my new adventure. Although while walking up Grand Street I began to revert to my old ways wondering what was I doing on this filthy street in Chinatown and what kind of whole in the wall was I about to walk into. To my delight the office was clean, friendly and organized. I was asked tons of questions pertaining to why I was there and what I wanted to be treated for. After filling out some information they checked my pulse, looked at my tongue and asked me some more questions. To be honest they were right on for the most part. Next I was pined like a cushion on my back and then on my front and in my ears. The acupuncture needles don't hurt there are only a few places which are sensitive but it's bearable. An eyebrow wax is worse. After an hour I was given a bottle of herbs to take 2x a day and I scheduled a second appointment to follow up with my acupuncture stop smoking campaign. Honestly, I do feel different after my appointment. I feel relaxed, my energy is a bit more balanced and I have no interest in smoking a cigarette. Which to be honest with you is a feat with in itself. I had a very positive experience and would be more than happy to share the doctor's information with anyone whom may like it. I will add updates after my next treatments.

:A little information on Acupuncture:
Acupuncture is one of the key components of the system of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). In the TCM system of medicine, the body is seen as a delicate balance of two opposing and inseparable forces: yin and yang. Yin represents the cold, slow, or passive principle, while yang represents the hot, excited, or active principle. Among the major assumptions in TCM are that health is achieved by maintaining the body in a "balanced state" and that disease is due to an internal imbalance of yin and yang. This imbalance leads to blockage in the flow of qi (vital energy) along pathways known as meridians. It is believed that there are 12 main meridians and 8 secondary meridians and that there are more than 2,000 acupuncture points on the human body that connect with them.
