Apocalypto

Ok. Let me start out by saying I believe that Mel Gibson is an anti-semetic bigot and I am not wiling to financially contribute to his creative endeavors. Yet, I am more than happy to watch his films at your house.

I had the pleasure of seeing Apocalypto for the first time this past weekend. Simply stated it was amazing. The story, the imagery, wardrobe, everything. The film had it all love, brotherhood, heartache, fear, pride, longing, fantasy and fights. Netflix this film and let me know what you think. It's all about Jaguar Paw! It doesn't hurt that the lead Rudy Youngblood is gorgeous.

Howard Zinn

Howard Zinn : "You Can't be Neutral on a Moving Train" Documentary, 2004.

Howard Zinn historian and activist has been on the forefront of progressive thought in America for decades. From the 50s until present day he has re-written history and given intellectual merit to anti-war and civil rights movements for his generation, ours and for generations to come. He has been at the right place at the right time to inspire millions. What makes Zinn so unique is that he never rallied or insisted to be on the forefront of social movements it was his personal beliefs and presence as a professor at the university level that showcased his drive to create change within ourselves that inspired a domino effect in all that surrounded him. He wants you to rise up and let your voice be heard. It is the minorities, women and poor that represent our democracy. This documentary chronicles Zinn's influential and inspiring commitment to social change and it is very inspiring.

I also recommend "A People's History of the United State" It was this book that introduced me to Zinn and helped to lay out a history of the United States which I could not and would never find in a traditional text book. I would like to thank my Sophomore year American History professor Ann Grenell at Northeastern University for feeding me information that I didn't even know I was hungry for.

Who Killed the Electric Car?

This is a really important documentary to see. This country can be independent from needing foreign oil. While it won't happen anytime soon at least you can learn about alternative options. This film was well made and very informative I highly recommend it. You can find it at Netflix or your local video store.

The film deals with the history of the electric car, its development and commercialization, mostly focusing on the General Motors EV1 , which was made available for lease in Southern California, after the California Air Resources Board passed the ZEV mandate in 1990, as well as the implications of the events depicted for air pollution , environmentalism, Middle East politics, and global warming.

The film details the California Air Resources Board's reversal of the mandate after suits from automobile manufacturers, the oil industry, and the George W. Bush administration. It points out that Bush's chief influences, Dick Cheney, Condoleezza Rice, and Andrew Card, are all former executives and board members of oil and auto companies.

This past Saturday, Sapna and I made plans to check out a " Mafioso" at the Angelika. After braving the bitter cold and looking forward to seeing this 1962 black and white mafia flic we were more than happy to sit in a toasty movie theatre with snacks and escape nyc for an hour or two. Unfortunately this was not the case. Not only could we not see the screen due to the prehistoric movie seats and a screen smaller than my LCD at home, but it was freezing in there AND the white subtitles on the black and white film were illegible until an actor in a dark coat walked by the writing. I couldn't wait to leave that theater. So next time I want to catch an indie or a foreign flic it will NOT be at the Angelika with their $6 lates. scoff! I turn my nose up at you stuffy and pretentious Angelika theatre. Get some f'in stadium seating. Foreign film should not equal discomfort.

The Big Lebowski

The Big Lebowski ; If you have yet to see this flic I'm going to suggest you make it a blockbuster night and rent it.
A 1998 comedy film written and directed by Joel and Ethan Cohen aka the Cohen Brothers. Not sure what made me think of this movie while I was idling away my time at my desk but it brought me alil joy in my mundane work day.
