An extensive investigation conducted by the Humane Society of the United States found that many real furs made by some top designers were mislabeled as "faux fur" or as "raccoon fur" or "rabbit fur" when they were actually dog fur (from the Chinese raccoon dog, who are often skinned alive!). To prevent such consumer deception, Representatives Jim Moran (D.-Va) and Mike Ferguson (R.-NJ) have introduced The Dog and Cat Fur Prohibition Enforcement Act of 2007 that would require all fur products to be truthfully labeled as well as ban the sale of fur from raccoon dogs.
